Understanding the challenge
What are executive functions?
Executive functions are the cognitive skills that let us plan, focus, remember, and manage our time and emotions. They are the "CEO" of the brain – and for many students, they develop unevenly.
Even when I first began teaching over 30 years ago, I knew that organization, time management, and prioritizing were critical – and that students rarely receive explicit instruction in them beyond elementary school.
"When given the opportunity to understand their personal profile, students can become expert learners who improve their ability to maneuver school more efficiently."
What EF challenges can look like
- Difficulty keeping track of assignments and possessions
- Disorganization – loose papers, forgotten materials
- Frustration when transitioning from one task to another
- Not knowing how to get started, even on familiar tasks
- Difficulty estimating how long a task will take
- Trouble controlling emotions or impulses under pressure
- Inconsistent performance – great one day, struggling the next
- Grades that don't reflect their effort or intelligence

What people say
Trusted by families and professionals
"Sara Fabricant gets it. All of us learn differently and have unique needs. The feedback from families who have worked with Sara is uniformly positive and enthusiastic – she helps you learn what works for you, and how to be the best you can be."
"Sara is in a class of her own. An incredibly positive and caring educator, Sara has a degree of empathy for the experiences of neurodivergent learners that is unmatched by most. She works hard to support students in achieving their goals. Sara truly 'gets' us."
"Mrs. Fabricant is caring, understanding, and genuinely desires to help students with learning differences. She made an extra effort to meet virtually when needed and always made me feel supported."
